Joe Suhre is the owner and principal of Suhre & Associates. Joe has dedicated his practice to the defense of OVI cases. Joe has over 17 years of criminal defense experience and 5 years of experience as a police officer. He has handled hundreds of DUI cases before dozens of judges. Because of this, Joe is uniquely qualified to defend his clients against DUI charges.
Joe began his legal career on the “other side of the fence” as a police officer. His experience and training as a police officer gives Joe a perspective not held by many other attorneys. When presented with a DUI charge, the first place Joe looks is to the actions of the police officer. He uses his knowledge of police practices and training standards to uncover missteps made by the arresting officer. In addition to the training Joe received in the police academy and in the field, he also continued his training as an attorney by becoming certified in the NHTSA administration of standardized field sobriety tests. Joe went on to receive advanced training by becoming ARIDE certified. ARIDE stands for Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement. Both the NHTSA and ARIDE standards are what the police are trained to use on a national basis. By being certified in both of the standards, Joe is able to analyze what the police did with the knowledge of what they’re supposed to have done – that way he can provide a better defense for his clients.
In 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Joe was named a Rising Star Super Lawyer in Cincinnati magazine in the field of DUI/OVI defense. In 2015 and 2016 he was named a Super Lawyer. Joe has also been named a Leading Lawyer in the field of DUI/OVI defense by Cincy Business magazine every year since 2006 – one of the longest consecutive runs for this honor.
Joe’s method for handling cases is simple and straightforward: treat the client the same way the attorney would want to be treated if the attorney were the client and do the very best job that you can. Joe not only uses this methodology, but also has employed it into all of the Suhre & Associates attorneys. It is the culture of the firm and a driving force behind the firm’s success.
Another factor in Suhre & Associates success is the people. Whether it is a legal secretary, paralegal, administrative assistant, or an attorney – everyone at the firm is dedicated to performing at 100% of their ability, treating each client with dignity, courtesy, and respect. The mutual respect the firm shares with its clients is a contributing factor to the successful outcome of our cases.
Joe and the attorney's built Suhre & Associates as an aggressive law firm. Part of the firm’s culture is to explore all defense options. Suhre & Associates’ success in handling Cincinnati DUI cases comes from uncompromising principles directed at providing thorough investigation of the facts, an analysis of all legal options, formulating a defense plan, and aggressively and effectively executing that plan.
Joe is licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, Kentucky, and the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He is a graduate of Xavier University and Cincinnati College of Law. He is married and has three sons.
