Illinois Car Owners Should Be Aware of Vehicle Watch Lists for 2017

The Safety Institute provides a quarterly list of vehicle defects car buyers and owners should be aware of. The list is prepared with the help of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Enforcement Monitoring Program. It is sponsored by Beth and Ken Melton in honor of Brooke Melton. Ms. Melton died due to an ignition defect in her 2005 Chevy Cobalt in 2010. Case evidence revealed that General Motors knew about the defect since 2001. The Meltons sponsor these reports to hopefully help others avoid similar tragedies. The aim of the reports is to identify vehicles with continuing failures that have not been fixed.

The Institute’s most recent list is dated March 1, 2017. The list is not exhaustive; many other vehicles may have product defects.
